The Box is hosting an encore of performances for the closing weekend of the gallery's current exhibitions Songs In The Key of Mard' by Nathaniel Mellors and Utility Fatigue by Linda Franke. Mellor's exhibition features weeping fountain sculptural busts, found-object toilets and paintings that play upon the tropes of Western masculinity. This exhibit reflects Mellor's continued incisive and sometimes comical explorations of how cultural contexts often distort origin stories, lineages, and histories, which are often presented as objective anthropologies and facts. Franke's concurrent solo exhibition also examines objectivity via the artist's ontological inquiries into how we define the characteristics of everyday objects, translating wooden chairs into compressed silicone rubber casts and seat cushions into concrete wall-mounted works.
