Jordan Stein is a curator based in San Francisco and the author of Rip Tales: Jay DeFeo’s Estocada & Other Pieces (Soberscove Press, 2021) and Miyoko Ito: Heart of Hearts, a forthcoming monograph on the singular Japanese-American artist (Pre-Echo Press, 2023). In 2017, he founded Cushion Works, an exhibition space in the Mission District that focuses on local, emerging, and lesser-known older artists in an effort to support and honor those who have yet to benefit from critical, curatorial, or commercial attention. In 2019, he hosted Troy Chew's first solo exhibition.
He has independently organized exhibitions at venues such as the Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive, Artists Space, Yale Union, San Francisco City Hall, The Glass House, Matthew Marks Gallery, and The Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago, where he formerly served as Curator of Special Projects. He was a Curator at KADIST, San Francisco from 2016–2022.
