A thematic exhibition about dogs and dads (and anger and patriarchy) – with works by Taylor Marie Prendergast, David Sipress, and Karl Haendel.
The exhibition will include drawings, paintings, and two videos – Father, Daughter, Holy Spirit (2020), by Taylor Marie Prendergast (directed by Nick Harwood); and Questions For My Father (2011), by Karl Haendel and Petter Ringbom. Haendel and Ringbom's Questions for My Father (2011) is a document of the inquiries, doubts and reservations of a generation of men who came of age in the late 20th century. The work builds upon an eponymous series of drawings Haendel began in 2007 – Questions For My Father 10, 2023, is included in this exhibition.
Drawings by David Sipress (USA, b. 1947) include a series of ink on paper cartoons, originally published in The New Yorker, Air Mail, and in WHAT'S SO FUNNY? A Cartoonist's Memoir, (2022). Sipress has also created two site specific wall drawings (variants of his cartoons) for the exhibition.
We thank Vielmetter Los Angeles for their kind assistance with this exhibition.
