David Kordansky Gallery is pleased to announce a solo presentation of new paintings by Sam McKinniss at Frieze Los Angeles 2024.
McKinniss brings a full range of responses to images he encounters on the internet or through other contemporary cultural outlets, making paintings in which a media-based world, flattened by repetition, commerce, and digital screens, comes alive with mystery, visual intimacy, and personal commitment. Selecting characters and scenes with specific, and often recognizable, representations in the popular imagination, he subtly twists the aims to which images were originally put, finding in them ciphers for current moods and anxieties.
