Brian D. Butler established the Los Angeles gallery 1301PE in 1992. 1301PE was first known as 1301, and its original location was at 1301 Franklin Street in Santa Monica, California. The organization's fundamental tenet was to host top-notch exhibitions of Los Angeles-based artists. 1301 changed to 1310PE, which stands for Projects and Editions, in 1996.
